About Me

My name is Fiona, I am 35 years old and live in Tunbridge Wells, Kent with my husband and my three children aged 17, 9 and 6yrs.

Prior to becoming a Doula, I qualified as an NNEB trained Nursery Nurse in June 1991

and worked as a Nanny for many years, and childminder when I had my own children.

I trained to become a birth and postnatal Doula in May 2007 attending a course run by Nurturing Birth, and recognised by Doula UK.

Since completing my training in May 2007, I have been thoroughly exploring the facilities on offer to pregnant women in the area and have attended meetings with local Reflexologists, Massage Therapists and Antenatal Yoga teachers to find out what services they offer to local women. I regularly attend local meetings with professionals who offer pregnancy and children's therapies to ensure that I am up to date with what's available in the area and to ensure that I have personally met the professionals whose services I inform my clients about. I also regularly volunteer at the local breastfeeding clinic.

My own birth experiences were very different from each other, none progressing as I had hoped they would and all resulting in myself and my husband feeling very alone, and not well informed or supported. I didn't have positive experiences with breastfeeding and really feel that if I had had a Doula things would have been very different.

When I first heard of a Doula I realised at once that it was a role I wanted to fulfill.  As a doula I hope to enable more women to have a more enjoyable, natural birthing experience with continuous emotional and physical support.

I have been privalaged to attend some wonderful births, both at home and in local hospitals and have had some wonderful postnatal jobs. I cannot ever imagine finding anything as amazing and fulfilling as my role as a Doula.

I have attended further Nurturing Birth workshops and a Conference on Water Birth.
