Birth Packages
Due to the increasing workload of hospital and community midwifes, continuity of care is rapidly decreasing. A Doula is able to offer uninterrupted support to the mother throughout her entire labour and for as long as necessary after the birth.
Having built up a strong relationship with the mother and her partner during the antenatal period, the Doula knows what the couple want from their birthing experence, and is able to help ensure that the midwife, who may never have met the couple before, implements her care accordingly.
As every mother's pregnancy and birth experience is unique, it is impossible to offer a set package. It is important that the package is tailor made for each individual birth in accordance with the Mother's wishes. For example, a mother who already has young children, may not require much antenatal preperation, but might welcome more help in the first few hours at home. A mother experiencing her first pregnancy may feel she needs more than two antenatal appointments, but has her mother moving in so needs no postnatal support. It is for this reason, and to enable flexibility that I offer a basic package and extra hours of antenatal or postnatal support on top.
