Great news from Westminster!

In a change to the law made via the employment rights bill, mothers and their partners will be given the right to two weeks of bereavement leave if they have suffered a pregnancy loss before 24 weeks gestation.

About 250,000 expectant mothers in the UK suffer a miscarriage every year. Between 10% and 20% of pregnancies end in an early miscarriage within the first 12 weeks of gestation.
The Guardian – British parents to gain right to bereavement leave after miscarriage

After their motion at the 2024 Wales TUC Cymru Congress to grant bereavement leave to parents experiencing baby loss before 24 weeks of pregnancy, TUC Cymru took the lead in working to make this a reality. Mothers Matter – as well as other baby loss charities – campaigning with TUC Cymru to make it a right for working parents.

A big thank you to Sarah Owen MP, a dedicated Trade Union advocate, for taking up this challenge alongside our colleagues. And a heartfelt thanks to TUC Cymru for acting on our motion.
